Phil Taylor is being well backed to win the PDC World Championships, which gets underway on Thursday night.

The 51-year-old was written off by some bookmakers for success at the start of 2011, but 'The Power' has been in rampant form this season and has been well supported by his fans, who believe he will be crowned a 16-time world champion when the £1million tournament reaches the final on January 2nd.

Taylor will start his campaign against the winner of Friday's preliminary round clash between Japan's Haruki Muramatsu or Sweden's Dennis Nilsson. Bookmakers fear another win for the No.1 seed and bet365 spokesman Steve Freeth admitted: "It's the same old, same old - Phil Taylor is our worst result and despite his defeat last week he's still the one we fear the most.

"Punters just love him."

Rival firm Sportingbet have seen money for Adrian Lewis in recent days, but a spokesman told Crunchsports.com: "Taylor's our worst result. We laid an £800 bet on him at 2/1 in February."
