Delays at Bethpage due to rain.
The 2009 US Open will not be decided until Monday at the earliest as heavy rain caused even more delays at Bethpage Black.
Sixteen of the 60 golfers who made the cut are yet to begin their third rounds meaning there is still plenty of golf to be played.
The event hasn't finished on a Monday since Larry Nelson won at Oakmont in 1983 and yet there still remains the prospect of play continuing past Monday, with an 18-hole play-off still a possibility.
Phil Mickelson, still in contention at Bethpage, is hoping for a break in the weather.
"I really hope we get it done tomorrow because we have a family holiday planned to start on Monday night and I really don't want to cut that short," he said, referring to time he is planning to spend with wife Amy, who was diagnosed in May with breast cancer and who is to undergo surgery early next month.
Mickelson has said he will suspend his playing activity until further notice to be at her side and will miss next month's Open Championship at Turnberry.
Ricky Barnes has a one-shot lead at Bethpage after he shot five-under-par 65 on Saturday for a record 36-hole total of 132 to be cut to a best priced 14/1 (Coral) on Sunday morning.
Barnes leads fellow-American Lucas Glover (5/1 Ladbrokes, Paddy Power) as golfers face the prospect of 36 holes at Bethpage Black on Sunday.
Tiger Woods, the defending champion and winner in 2002 when the tournament was last played at Bethpage, is 11 shots off the lead after posting a second-round 69 and making par to start his third-round. The world number one is now out to a best priced 12/1 with Betfred.
