Adam Scott equalled the course record for an Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes on Thursday as he shot an opening round 64.

The Australian set the early pace in superb scoring conditions on Thursday morning, finishing the day one shot ahead of 1999 champion Paul Lawrie, former US Masters winner Zach Johnson, and Belgium's Nicolas Colsaerts.

Brandt Snedeker is a further shot behind after shooting a 66, while a group of players including Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Ernie Els, Bubba Watson, and Graeme McDowell are all at three under.
