Adam Scott had equalled the course record for an Open Championship on Thursday as he shot an opening round 64, and Brandt Snedeker matched that score on Friday to take a one-shot lead at the halfway stage at Royal Lytham & St Annes.

Snedeker added a 64 to his opening 66 to go 10 under and edge past first-round leader Scott (67), with Tiger Woods (67) four shots back after chipping in at the last.

American Snedeker has made it to the weekend yet to drop a shot or find one of the 206 bunkers in his opening two rounds, and his two-round total of 130 equals Nick Faldo's Open record set at Muirfield in 1992.

Denmark's Thorbjorn Olesen shot a 66 for five under in good conditions on the Fylde coast late on Friday, while Scotland's Paul Lawrie (71), Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell (69), American pair Jason Dufner (66) and Matt Kuchar (67), and South African Thomas Aiken (68) all finished four under.

2002 champion Ernie Els of South Africa ended three under after a 70 and is a shot ahead of world No. 1 Luke Donald (68).

Second-round Leaderboard:
-10 Snedeker (US)
-9 Scott (Aus)
-6 Woods (US)
