Melbourne Cup 2015 barrier draw – the full field for the Melbourne Cup

The final field for the Melbourne Cup has been declared and UK raider Bondi Beach has come up with the dreaded barrier 18 for Tuesday’s $6.2million showpiece.

No horse has won from gate 18 in 154 years and jockey Brett Prebble will need to produce the ride of his career if  Bondi Beach is to have any chance of taking out the world’s most famous 3200m handicap.

Race favourite Fame Game has come up with barrier 12 and looks a great chance to give Japan their first win in the event since Delta Blues scored from compatriot Pop Rock in 2006.

The son of Heart’s Cry put in an eye-catching lead-up run in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) when working home strongly from the rear of the field.

In Australia, coverage of the Group 1 showpiece is also available via Ladbrokes Australia:

Along with Fame Game, 10 other international visitors have secured a place in the showpiece, equaling the highest number of international starters set in 2011 when Dunaden scored the narrowest of wins over Red Cadeaux.

Trainer Ed Dunlop has Red Cadeaux entered for his fifth Melbourne Cup and he will jump from barrier 8 as he tries to go one better than his unprecedented three 3rd placings.

Stablemate Trip To Paris looks a great hope after his slashing 2nd to Mongolian Khan in the Caulfield Cup where he recorded the best closing sectionals in the race.

Other international runners include: Snow Sky, Max Dynamite, Bondi Beach, Hokko Brave, Kingfisher, Sky Hunter, Quest For More and Big Orange.

Geelong Cup winner Almoonqith will be looking to emulate the deeds of Media Puzzle, Americain and Dunaden as recent Geelong/Melbourne Cup double winners and looks a top local hope for trainers David Hayes and Tom Dabernig.

Gai Waterhouse already had The Offer in the ‘race that stops a nation’ and has secured the final spot with Excess Knowledge winning the Lexus Stakes.

The Robert Hickmott-trained The United States also sneaks into the field in 24th position after the controversial withdrawal of stablemate Amralah who had been treated with cortisone and has failed to rid his system of trace elements of the treatment.
