Seattle will get another chance against the Cleveland Indians on Saturday evening.

The Seattle Mariners played their home opener on Friday night as they lost 12-3 to the visiting Cleveland Indians. With the loss the Mariners fell to 2-5 on the year, hardly a hot start.

Travis Hafner of Cleveland launched a three-run homerun into right field as part of a 10 run Cleveland 4th inning, a shot that had Seattle fans booing louder than when the city councillors were announced during the pre-game.

The pre-game also featured a touching tribute to the late Dave Niehaus, the sportscaster for the Mariners' who passed away in the off-season. Members of Niehaus's family were welcomed onto the field to respectful applause and shortly after Marilyn Niehaus threw out the first pitch.

Ichiro Suzuki and Franklin Gutierrez also received their gold glove awards on Friday for their play last season.

The Mariners will play again tonight as they face the Cleveland Indians once again in a game that starts at 6:10pm PT.
