Georgie Thompson to front Formula One coverage on Sky Sports?

F1 is heading to Sky Sports next year (credit: Wikipedia)
Following Friday's announcement that Formula One will be broadcast on Sky Sports from next year, Georgie Thompson is the early favourite to front Sky's coverage.

Sky and the BBC TV have been awarded the live rights to F1 from 2012 in a deal which runs until 2018.

The deal will see Sky Sports broadcast all races, qualifying and practice sessions, while half the races and qualifying sessions will still be broadcast live on BBC, including key races such at the British Grand Prix, Monaco Grand Prix and the final race of the season.

Bookmakers William Hill on Friday afternoon reported that Sky Sports presenter Georgie was their early favourite ahead of Simon Thomas.

Murray Walker is a 100/1 shot to be the commentator for the first race.

Hill's spokesman Joe Crilly told Crunchsports.com: "The current BBC coverage of the F1 is award winning and so Sky will have to bring out all the big guns in order to draw viewers to their coverage."
