Will Busch repeat last week's win?

Crunch Sports Staff - 8 May 2009

Darlington Raceway hosts a NASCAR event this weekend with the Southern 500.

Kyle Busch, who took down the Crown Royal 400 last week, won at Darlington in 2008. For that reason, Busch is the favorite to win the Southern 500.

But Busch will face tough competition in the Southern 500 as more than one driver has won at Darlington more than once.

Let’s analyze the chances of some of the drivers to win the Southern 500.

NASCAR Betting: Southern 500 To Win

Kyle Busch +450 - - He won at Darlington last year and won at Richmond last week. Busch put together two back to back victories earlier this year. Why not again? Kyle should be just as tough as usual in the Southern 500 from Darlington.

Jimmie Johnson +600 - - Johnson has won twice at Darlington and has to, not should, but has to bounce back from an absolutely terrible two weeks. Jimmie hasn’t finished in the Top 25 in two straight weeks. He was awful last week at Richmond. The Darlington bounce back looks likely because the champ rarely stays down for long.

Greg Biffle +900 - - Biffle actually did better two weeks ago at Talladega, when finishing 7th, then most bettors thought he would. Last week at Richmond, Biffle finished 17th. Two wins at Darlington means that he has a shot to improve just enough to get the checkered flag on Saturday.

Tony Stewart +1000 - - Stewart has zero wins at Darlington but his second place finish in the Crown Royal 400 last week means that maybe his luck will change in South Carolina. Stewart has proven that changing teams hasn’t hurt him. He’s got a shot at nice odds.

Denny Hamlin +1200 - - Hamlin hasn’t won at Darlington yet either but his average order of finish, 6.3, means that he could definitely be tough in this. Hamlin isn’t the top driver on his team, but he’s won a race this year and he’s in the thick of the Sprint Cup Chase. He deserves some consideration for a win wager from gamblers.

Jeff Gordon +700 - - It was nice to see Gordon, who was driving on bad tires towards the end of the Crown Royal 400, to show some heart when trying to knock Kyle Busch off of his mark on the restart. It didn’t work and Gordon got crap for it, but at least he showed something. Jeff has 7 victories at Darlington. That makes him a contender on Saturday.

Best Long Shots

Jeff Burton +3500 - - Burton has two victories at Darlington and finished 3rd last week at Richmond. He has a serious shot to take down the checkered flag this Saturday if he can just get it together early and maintain.

Brian Vickers +3500 - - Vickers has won at Darlington and has finished in the Top Ten 38 times. He’s been having a decent year. So, a victory is possible.
