He's the type of player that contenders need to have.
Glen Davis isn't any kind of future Hall of Famer but in the NBA he is a pretty good forward. He's the type of player that teams that are trying to contend need on their bench so that they have quality playable talent when they face injuries, suspensions, or in-game foul trouble. Davis will be 24 year's old on New Year's Day 2010 and based on his contributions from his first two seasons and his youth, improvement should be expected.
Last year with the Celtics Davis earned 16 starts and his per game averages ballooned a bit, up to 7.0 points per and 4.0 rebounds per.
As a young player in the NBA Davis might not be in the best environment in terms of playing time. Boston is a contender in the Eastern Conference and there's not going to be a ton of playing time with a healthy Kevin Garnett in the lineup and with the recent addition of Rasheed Wallace - two players that play Davis' position. However, since Davis remaining a Celtic adds depth to an already strong team, the Celtics look like a good pick in the Eastern Conference especially for the price that you could get.
Stan James has the Celtics at +450 (9/2) to win the NBA championship next season and we think there is value with that price.
