NFL News for Week 10

Crunch Sports Staff - 13 Nov 2009

With the weekend practically here, make sure you are in the know about what's going on in the NFL before you bet.

Buffalo considered underdogs against the Titans.

The Buffalo Bills are 6.5 point underdogs against the Tennessee Titans.  The Titans are a hot team in the NFL and this isn't exactly the best match-up for the Bills.

Change quarterbacks from Kerry Collins to the more mobile Vince Young and all of a sudden you start winning games?
Anyhow, the 3 and 0 with Vince Young Titans have one of the worst defenses in the NFL, ranked 31st, and if they were facing a better passing teamm that terrible defense no doubt would be exploited.

Luckily for Tennessee, Buffalo’s offense sucks. Edwards or no Edwards, the Bills have trouble getting into the end zone. Buffalo averages only 15 points per game and their defense won’t be able to stop Titans’ RB Chris Johnson.

This one is a no-brainer. Stick with the Titans at -6 ½ ATS.

Brady Quinn Gets the Pleasure of Getting Beat Up over Derek Anderson in Cleveland

Quinn gets the nod over Derek Anderson to quarterback the worst team in the NFL, the Cleveland Browns, in their Monday night loss against the Baltimore Ravens.

I suppose Coach Eric Mangini must have made a tough decision benching Anderson in favor of Quinn. After all, Derek does have more experience. But, after looking at the stats, it appears that Quinn is the better choice. Brady has a 62 QB rating as opposed to Derek’s 36 QB rating. So, Quinn should have a better chance of putting up points against the Ravens than Anderson and bringing up the Browns’ point total game average from 9 to maybe 10, right?

Nah. This is another no-brainer. Quinn is going to be on his back most of this game and Joe Flacco and the Ravens’ offense is going to go mad like Edgar Allan Poe scoring so many points against Cleveland.

The Ravens are 10 ½ point favorites. They cover the spread in the football sportsbook.

Westbrook is Okay for the Eagles but Marshall Might be Out for the Broncos

Brian Westbrook has been practicing, although limitedly, for the Philadelphia Eagles this week.

The Eagles, who have sort of chucked the whole Michael Vick experiment already, are 1 point favorites over the San Diego Chargers this weekend. With Westbrook, they become a better team simply because Donovan McNabb gets an extra weapon in which to throw the ball too.

That doesn’t mean, of course, that the Eagles beat the spread against the very tough Chargers. San Diego is surging and Phillip Rivers is outplaying almost every quarterback in the NFL right now. The guy can be a blowhard at times, but nobody can question his work ethic.

With or without Westbrook, I don’t believe the Eagles have enough to stop the Chargers offense and I believe that San Diego is good enough to win another game against an NFC East opponent, just like last Sunday when they beat the New York Giants 21 to 20 on the road.

Now, Denver without Brandon Marshall could be a problem. Marshall spreads the field for the Broncos who have lost two games in a row and now face the tough Washington Redskins.

Redskins? Tough? I know, sounds ridiculous but the ‘Skins can be tough at times. They won’t outscore the Broncos in this game, but they might be able to shut down Denver’s running game if Marshall can’t step onto the field.

Denver is a very, very good team. I still believe that, but the two losses in a row show that they aren’t as good as the Patriots, Colts and Saints.

That means that they could get upset by a Washington team that has been unlucky in more than one game this season.

The NFL betting odds makers agree which is why the Broncos are only favored by 3 ½ points in this game. I’d be willing to take the ‘Skins at +160 straight-up to win this game if I could get confirmation, right before kick-off, that Marshall was indeed either not playing or is going to be limited in the game.
