The New Orleans Saints win their first Super Bowl by defeating the Indianapolis Colts.
The New Orleans Saints have won the 44th Super Bowl earlier this evening as they defeated the Indianapolis Colts by a score of 31-17.
There were two major plays in the game that went the Saints way. First, they retrieved an onside kick to start the second half and marched the football down for a major. Then late in the 4th with Indianapolis trying to tie the game up, Tracy Porter intercepted Peyton Manning and ran the ball back 74 yards for a touchdown.
The victory is historic for New Orleans who had never won a Super Bowl prior to today. As far as betting goes, the game was notable for a few reasons. First, the Saints cashed in as underdogs heading into the game. Secondly, by posting a large victory of 14 points, the Saints covered not only the spread but a lot of adjusted spreads.
Lastly, the Saints were moderate longshots to start the season as they could have been bet, pre-season, at about +1000 (10/1) depending on which sportsbook you used.
Drew Brees, quarterback for the Saints, was named the MVP with a record tying 32 completions.
