2011 NHL Odds - Toronto Maple Leafs 40 to 1 to win Eastern Conference

Toronto are longshots to win the Eastern Conference.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are not considered to be serious contenders in the Eastern Conference for the 2010/11 season as bet365 have opened their odds in the outright winner's market for the Eastern Conference.  Hardly core contenders, Toronto have been priced at +4000 (40/1).

It appears as though next season may be another 'building' year as most sportsbooks are actually offering betting lines on Toronto way out at +6600 (66/1; Blue Square) to win the Cup.

If anything, those odds could be expected to shorten as the regular season approaches.  It's not that Toronto are underrated but rather Toronto are POPULAR and their fans show up - and bet - even when their team is terrible.  Technically that might be one reason why Toronto have been bad for years now as there is no pressure on the Maple Leafs organization to put a good team on the ice when Toronto fans will pay for fluff.

You could actually question whether or not the Maple Leafs are ever actually re-building as it would be smart business not to put a great team on the ice when it's not needed to sell seats.

Nazem Kadri, Dion Phaneuf, and Phil Kessel may change things in the future for the Maple Leafs but 2011 looks like a case of same old-same old at this point.

The good news for Leafs backers is that you don't have to bet hardly anything in order to make things interesting for yourself.  When 2.5 units on the Eastern Conference odds returns 100 it takes away some risk because you don't have to shove a big bet in and +4000 could shorten.  There are surprises every year and betting now is a smart move for annual Toronto punters to make sure you stay ahead of the betting rush which may be coming and that may put pressure on sportsbooks to shorten their prices.
