Edmonton Oilers - Longest Longshot to win the 2011 Stanley Cup

Crunch Sports Staff - 29 Jul 2010

Edmonton have been outside of the playoffs since making the Cup finals in 2006 and next year looks no better.

The Edmonton Oilers are not considered to be contenders for the 2011 Stanley Cup as bet365 have priced them at +12500 (125/1) to win the championship outright next season.  Those are the longest odds available on any team with the exception of the Minnesota Wild, who have the exact same price with the same firm.

Since 1992 the Oilers have only had a good team for about 3 to 4 months and that was at the tail end of the 2005-06 regular season and during the playoffs that year.  Since then Edmonton have been dry for hockey success, despite the popularity of the sport in the city.

Those looking to bet a team at odds that might be considered long can find the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals both priced at +700 (7/1) with Blue Square in the outright winner's market.
