Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings - Interested in Jaromir Jagr

The Pittsburgh Penguins are not the only team interested in signing Jagr as the Montreal Canadiens and Detroit Red Wings are in the mix.

The news surrounding Jaromir Jagr and his potential return to NHL arenas this fall is starting to heat up.

NHL.com reported on Thursday morning that the center's agent, Petr Svoboda, "is set to meet with Pittsburgh General Manager Ray Shero on Thursday morning, likely to discuss the contract offer the Penguins have on the table for the 39-year-old Czech superstar."

The offer from the Penguins is reportedly for one year and $2 million, a contract offer that has to be judged as cautious. Jagr has not played in the NHL since 2007/08 however he has not been idle during that time as he has been playing for Avangard Omsk in Russia.

Svodoba reportedly told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that he was going to speak with the Detroit Red Wings and the Montreal Canadiens, two teams who have expressed interest in Jagr.

Other teams getting involved in the mix does put pressure on the Penguins to improve on their offer, something that could put their seriousness level on signing Jagr to the test.

If all teams make similar offers Jagr would likely opt for Pittsburgh as that is where his heart takes him, the city he won two Stanley Cups in back in the early 1990s.
