The Penguins have gained a little bit of ground, but they still have their work cut out for themselves to win their division.
The Pittsburgh Penguins still sit in second place in the Atlantic Division, 3 points behind the New Jersey Devils. However Pittsburgh have cut into the Devils' lead a little bit recently and there is still ample time for the Penguins to overtake the Devils.
Importantly however, the Devils have only played 53 games of their schedule while Pittsburgh have already played 56 games. The significance of that fact is that not only do the Devils hold a lead in their division, but they will have 3 more opportunities than Pittsburgh to add to their points total. That fact certainly gives the Devils a greater edge in their divisional race than their 3 point lead suggests.
However the best chance to bet the Devils to win their division has already past. We were tipping New Jersey and their odds to win the Atlantic Division during November and December however during that time frame the Devils were priced in the +300 to +1000 range with Players Only and the value was unmistakable.
Now the Devils are -350 (2/7; Players Only) to win their division and there's not much point to taking those odds at this time.
If you are looking to bet this division now, then the Penguins (+200, 2/1) are the only team worth picking and they do have a chance to catch the Devils, as New Jersey has been losing a few too many games lately. However if you got the Devils at +1000 earlier, then you have to be ecstatic about the value of your odds at this point and you'll want to just ride the rest of the season out, hoping that they cash in for you.
