Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings - Not Signing Jaromir Jagr

Jaromir Jagr (credit: Wikipedia.org)
The Penguins and Red Wings have both withdrawn the offers that were on the table for Jaromir Jagr.

NHL.com recently reported that the Pittsburgh Penguins have withdrawn the contract offer that was made to Jaromir Jagr not long ago. The Penguins had offered Jagr a one-year $2 million contract however that offer has been taken back.

Ray Shero, the Executive Vice President of the Penguins and GM, said: "It was never our intention to get involved in a free agent bidding war, and we have to focus on our team."

Other NHL teams have expressed interest in Jagr recently, including the Detroit Red Wings, the Philadelphia Flyers, and the Montreal Canadiens. That interest may serve to raise the value of Jagr's services, a player considered to be among the greatest of all time. However recently the Red Wings withdrew their offer as well and perhaps Jagr's return to the NHL is starting to lose some momentum.

Jagr has not played in the NHL for three seasons however he has played for Avangard Omsk in Russia where he had 50 points in 49 games last season.

Pittsburgh was a sentimental choice for Jagr as he won two Stanley Cups with the franchise in the 1990s alongside Mario Lemieux.
