The Capitals have the New York Rangers on the brink of elimination following a heroic overtime win in Manhattan.

The Washington Capitals and the New York Rangers met on Wednesday night in a game from Madison Square Garden. Washington entered the game ahead 2-1 in the series however they fell behind early in game four as the Rangers once led 3-0.

However the Capitals raced back and won the game in overtime and as a result the Capitals took a 3-1 series lead.

While Washington have to feel comfortable with that cushion few will forget what happened the last time the Capitals had a 3-1 series lead.

Last year Washington had Montreal on the brink of elimination in the first round, up 3-1 in their series, and then the Capitals blew games five, six, and seven, as the Canadiens made good on their comeback.

While history could repeat itself this season, if anything the experience of losing to Montreal last season after holding that kind of lead has to be valuable.

There will be no Capitals players acting like the series is already over with last year's lesson already learned.

Washington will host game five from the Verizon Center in downtown Washington on Saturday afternoon. Game time is at 3pm ET with NBC providing the television coverage.
