Kate Middleton was at the Olympic Stadium on Friday morning as Jessica Ennis made a superb start to her quest for Olympic gold.

Ennis ran a heptathlon record 12.54 seconds in the 100m hurdles on Friday - a time which broke the British record and equalled American Dawn Harper's winning time in the individual event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

It was a new personal best by 0.25 secs and meant Ennis led the standings after the first of the seven events.

Kate, who has been in attendance at a number of Olympic events over the past week, sat near British Prime Minister David Cameron as an 80,000-strong partisan crowd cheered on all of Team GB's track and field hopefuls.

Rain started to fall early on Friday afternoon, but the change in weather did not dampen spirits in the Olympic Park as Ennis turned her attention to the high jump.
