Barcelona midfielder Alexander Hleb, currently on loan at Birmingham, is keen on a return to former club Arsenal

The 29-year-old has ruled out a permanent switch to Birmingham in the summer despite his chances of first team football at Camp Nou next season being slim.

Barca are set to offload a number of fringe players at the end of the season and it is likely that Hleb will be one of those sold.

The Belarus international wants to stay in the Premier League and has admitted that a return to former club Arsenal appeals.

"I want to give my best for Birmingham but if I have chance to go back to Arsenal, of course I would," he said.

"I am happy and enjoy my time here, everything is good but this is a little bit not my style of football."

Hleb, who left the Gunners in July 2008 to join Barcelona in a £12million deal, added: "I love Arsenal. It is always in my heart but now is too early to speak about a new club.

"Everything is possible but I am just saying if I get this chance, of course I'd come."

Although he does not want to remain with Birmingham, Hleb has enjoyed his spell at St Andrew's. But he has struggled with injury this season and believes he does not suit their style of play.

"I have enjoyed it here in a way because it is something new," he continued.

"But here you need to just fight and run, not too much passing. This is a different experience and I prefer to play and to enjoy football."

Hleb, who is yet to start a league game for Barcelona under coach Pep Guardiola, also admits he has been frustrated with being left on the sidelines.

"Barcelona is the biggest club in the world but it is difficult when you are not from Spain," he added.

"It has happened with everybody - with [Thierry] Henry, everyone. Josep Guardiola picks the Spanish players.

"I've not had a lot of chances to play there and I would prefer to stay in the Premier League."
