Toulouse midfielder Etienne Capoue, who has been linked with Arsenal and Barcelona, has revealed he wants to leave the club this month so he can play Champions League football this season.
Capoue has been linked with Arsenal for some time, with reports towards the end of last year suggesting the Gunners were considering a January bid for the 24-year-old.
Reports last month had suggested Barcelona were also keen on signing the Frenchman as they look to bring in a defensive midfielder.
And speaking to L'Equipe, Capoue admitted: "I want to play in the Champions League, and face the best teams in the continent.
"Toulouse cannot offer me that this season. "We missed out on Europe at the end of the Championnat.
"Yes, I want to leave.
"It's not that I'm not happy at Toulouse, but I want to progress, pass a course and integrate as quickly as possible in the France team."
Toulouse president Olivier Sadran, however, is keen to keep the player at the Ligue 1 club.
"For Etienne, I have not received any offers. Many big clubs think that some of our top players have yet to mature," he said.
Capoue can play either in midfield or in central defence, which will appeal to Barca.
The Catalans' top midfield target is Javi Martinez of Athletic Bilbao. Like Capoue, he is equally at home playing in midfield or as part of the back four, but his club insist he will not be allowed to leave for less than his €36million buy-out clause.
