Arsenal FC frontrunners to sign Lucas Biglia - report

Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign Anderlecht midfielder Lucas Biglia, who has been linked with a number of top clubs.

According to Sky Sports, Arsenal have moved into pole position to sign the Argentina international as manager Arsene Wenger looks to further strengthen his squad before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

Arsenal's renewed interest in the 25-year-old comes as Alex Song continues to be linked with a move to Barcelona (see Related Articles).

Biglia is believed to have a verbal agreement with Anderlecht that will allow him to leave for a "big club" this summer and has also been linked with Liverpool and Manchester United in recent weeks.

Arsenal or Real Madrid have been seen as more likely options for the highly-rated defensive midfielder for some time, however.

Speaking back in June, Biglia had admitted: "Real Madrid and Arsenal have both been in contact and I’ll wait to see what happens.

"I am still under contract with Anderlecht until 2015, but they know that I plan to leave.

"If a club offers the right price, Anderlecht will let me go."
