Arsenal FC keen on signing Paulinho AND Lewis Holtby - report

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is reportedly keen on signing Corinthians playmaker Paulinho in addition to Schalke's Lewis Holtby.

According to the Daily Mail, Wenger has tabled a £9million bid for Paulinho, full name Jose Paulo Bezerra Maciel Junior, who has three years left on his contract at the Estadio do Pacaembu.

Corinthians chairman Mario Gobbi has thus far insisted the Brazil international will not be sold.

Holtby, who has also been linked with Liverpool, could be an easier target to land. The 21-year-old, who missed out on a place in Germany's Euro 2012 squad due to injury, recently refused to rule out a future move to the Premiership and has just twelve months left on his contract with Schalke.

Holtby is seen by the Gunners as a possible replacement for Theo Walcott, who is out of contract at the end of next season and is yet to agree a new deal at Emirates Stadium.

Wenger has already signed Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski this summer but is aware he could lose Walcott and captain Robin van Persie before the start of the new season, with further talks with both key players scheduled to take place this week.

Holtby is a big fan of English football - his father is an Everton fan - and speaking to Bild last week, he admitted he is looking to play in England at some point in his career.

"I am very happy in Schalke," he said.

"But I would be lying if I said I will definitely extend may contract.

"My dream was always the Premier League - and someday I will make this step."
