Man City and Man Utd lead race to sign Van Persie as Arsenal FC receive bids

Arsenal have reportedly a number of offers for captain Robin van Persie following his decision not to extend his stay with the club.

Van Persie is out of contract at the end of next season and recently announced he does not plan to sign a new deal at Emirates Stadium, which is set to spark a big-money battle to secure his services this summer.

Clubs from across Europe are believed to be keen on signing the 28-year-old, with Manchester City, Juventus, and Manchester United widely seen as frontrunners in the race to sign the Netherlands international.

AC Milan, Barcelona, and Real Madrid have also been linked with Van Persie recently, and according to Sky Sports, several clubs have tabled bids for the forward.

The Dutchman returned to training on Monday for further discussions with manager Arsene Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis and it believed Van Persie wants his future resolved before the squad leave London for a pre-season tour of the Far East this weekend.

It now remains to be seen how Arsenal respond to the offers they have received, and it is believed they are wanting at least £25million for their skipper.

A move to Manchester is looking increasingly likely, as according to the Daily Star, Van Persie was seen in the exclusive village of Hale before jetting off on holiday recently, signalling that a move to either City or United is at the very least being considered.

United are still keen on bring in one or two more signings this summer following the recent arrivals of Japan international Shinja Kagawa and England Under-18 midfielder Nick Powell, while rivals City are believed to be ready to launch a bid for the player after agreeing a fee with Tottenham for Emmanuel Adebayor.

Arsenal are thought to have offered Van Persie a three-year deal worth £130,000-a-week, but Man City are believed to be ready to pay him £225,000 a week to move to the Etihad Stadium.

On Wednesday morning, bookmakers Ladbrokes made Man City odds-on favourites to be Van Persie's next club, ahead of Man Utd - whose odds have been slashed over the past 72 hours - and Barcelona.
