Arsenal FC striker Olivier Giroud 'disappointed' after being booed by France fans

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud said he was disappointed to be substituted for France on Tuesday night after he was booed by home fans against Belarus.

Giroud, who joined Arsenal earlier this summer from Montpellier for a fee in the region of £10million, is yet to score for his new club in three Premier League appearances, but was handed a start by Didier Deschamps for the World Cup qualifier in Paris, only to be jeered off after an hour.

France won the game 3-1, but Giroud was unhappy with how his night played out.

"I welcomed my position in the starting XI with a lot of enthusiasm and happiness," he said.

"Being in French team starting XI is always a privilege. However, I was a little disappointed to be substituted.

"When you are a forward you need time and try to not listen to the fans, above all at Stade de France, where the audience is always a little special."

Giroud has now scored just one goal in 11 appearances for his country.

Etienne Capoue, Christophe Jallet and Franck Ribery were on the scoresheet for the hosts, who have taken six points from their first two qualifying games.
