Arsenal look set to complete the signing of Santi Cazorla from Malaga in the next 24 hours after he passed a medical in London.
A deal for Cazorla, who will cost in the region of £17million, has been complicated by Malaga's financial problems and a possible takeover of the La Liga club, but the Gunners are hopeful that a deal will still go through before the end of the week.
The 27-year-old is known to be keen on moving to Emirates Stadium and as well as passing a medical is believed to have agreed personal terms.
Providing the deal goes through, Cazorla could travel to Germany with the Arsenal squad for next week's pre-season training camp and may his debut in the friendly against FC Koln.
Arsenal captain Robin van Persie is expected to be on the trip as speculation about his future continues.
Van Persie, who has twelve months left to run on his contract and will not sign a new one, is believed to be keen on joining Juventus or Manchester United.
Both clubs, along with Manchester City, have tabled bids, but it is understood that Arsenal's asking price - believed to be in excess of £20m - is yet to be met.
Cazorla, whose arrival would soften the blow of a Van Persie departure, could be joined at Arsenal in the next week or so by Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin, who will sign on a season-long loan deal providing an agreement between the two clubs is reached.
Manager Arsene Wenger is hopeful of having the Turkey international available well in time for the start of the new Premier League campaign, which kicks off on August 18th.
Wenger and Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta were full of praise for Cazorla last week.
"I cannot talk about the actual situation but I can say that I know him as a player really well," Arteta told reporters during Arsenal’s pre-season tour of the Far East.
"He’s a top, top player. He has got unbelievable quality and talent and that is all I can say."
Wenger added: "I share the opinion of Mikel Arteta. Cazorla is a great player."
Arsenal have already signed Germany striker Lukas Podolski from Cologne and French forward Olivier Giroud from Montpellier.
