Arsenal FC admit Podolski and Giroud could miss start of the new season

Arsenal's two new signings Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud could miss the start of the new Premier League season.

Giroud recently joined Arsenal in a £12million deal, with Podolski moving to Emirates Stadium in a deal worth around £11m, and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has revealed he plans to stagger their introductions to life in the Premiership.

The Frenchman is already without midfielder Jack Wilshere until October, while it remains to be seen whether captain Robin van Persie is still an Arsenal player when the 2012-13 Premier League season kicks off on August 18th.

But even if Van Persie ends up leaving the club in the coming weeks, Wenger has confirmed that his new recruits will not feature in pre-season, and they are unlikely to be regular starters for the first couple of games of the new campaign.

"Podolski and Giroud may take longer than expected," he told the Daily Mail.

"I cannot play them in pre-season, so I will ease them in the Premier League."
