Brighton preparing ambitious bid to sign Michael Owen from Man Utd - report

Championship side Brighton are reportedly preparing an ambitious bid to sign Manchester United striker Michael Owen.

According to The Sun, Brighton manager Gus Poyet wants to sign the former England international in a bid to improve their chances of securing a play-off place at the end of the season.

Late last year, Owen admitted he would have to consider his future if he does not get more first team opportunities.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted he wants to give the former Liverpool striker more playing time, but with Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez, Dimitar Berbatov and Danny Welbeck all ahead of him in the pecking order, the 32-year-old has spent most of the season warming the bench at Old Trafford.

Owen has previously stated that he would not be prepared to drop down a division, but the prospect of regular first-team football may appeal.
