Inter Milan have refused to rule out selling Maicon, who has reportedly turned down a move to Paris Saint-Germain as he wants to join Chelsea or Real Madrid.
Reports in Italy last week had claimed Maicon had rejected the chance to join PSG as he was holding out for a move to England or Spain before the transfer window closes at hte end of the month.
Reports earlier this summer had claimed Chelsea were closing in a deal for Maicon as they look to sign a right-back before the start of the season, while last month it was claimed the 31-year-old could move to Stamford Bridge for a fee in the region of £6million.
More recently, reports in Spain have suggested Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho is keen on being reunited with the Brazil international as the Spanish champions also consider strengthening their back four.
Inter coach Andrea Stramaccioni has called defender Maicon "the best in the world", but speaking to Sky Sports Italia, refused to rule out letting the right-back leave the San Siro this month.
Maicon is out of contract next summer and Stramaccioni has revealed the Italian giants are likely to be active in the transfer market in the next week.
"In my view, Maicon is the best in the world," he said.
"But obviously there are different evaluations to be made, as there is more than just fondness or monetary value.
"All of Inter cares about the Brazilian, as he is a fantastic lad. We'll have to see what happens. This Inter side does need to be completed, that is beyond doubt.
"Something will certainly happen before August 31st. In fact, I'd say before August 26th."
Chelsea are also keen on signing Cesar Azpilicueta from Marseille as they look to replace Jose Bosingwa, who left the club at the end of last season.
