Chelsea are favourites to sign Napoli striker Edinson Cavani this month as the Blues continue their search for a striker.
Despite spending over £65million already this summer, Chelsea are still keen on bringing in a right-back this month, while a deal for Wigan winger Victor Moses is still on the cards.
Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo this past week allowed teenage striker Romelu Lukaku join West Brom on a season-long loan deal and despite splashing out on the likes of Eden Hazard and Oscar this summer is also keen on bringing in a replacement for Didier Drogba, who left Stamford Bridge at the end of last season.
The Italian last week admitted: "We are a little bit light in a couple of positions and we've got one or two young players who are interesting but we will see what is going to go on and see what happens when the market closes."
According to reports in Italy, Chelsea have already held talks with Napoli about Uruguay striker Cavani, and bookmakers Sky Bet on Friday afternoon made Chelsea 4/7 favourites to win the race to sign the 25-year-old before the summer transfer window closes.
Manchester City and Italian champions Juventus, who have also been linked with Cavani, are next in the betting.
After reports last month had claimed the Blues were set to hold talks with Cavani over a move to Stamford Bridge, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis moved to end interest in his prize asset by telling clubs that they will have to pay €100million for the forward.
But according to Sportmediaset, De Laurentiis is now ready to sell Cavani for around €40m.
Chelsea are thought to be prepared to offer around €30m, but even if a fee is agreed, whether a deal goes through remains to be seen as according to the Daily Mail, the west London club want the player to lower his personal demands.
Cavani, who has previously admitted he is interested in playing in the Premiership, is said to be wanting a long-term £150,000-per-week deal.
Chelsea also appear to be frontrunners in the race to sign Porto striker Hulk as their search for a new striker continues (see Related Articles).
