Chelsea FC leading the race to sign Maicon from Inter Milan - report

Chelsea are said to be leading the race to sign Inter Milan full-back Maicon.

The Brazil international is out of contract in twelve months time and has been linked with a number of clubs in recent months.

Paris Saint-Germain have shown interest in the 30-year-old, while agent Roberto Calenda earlier this year claimed Manchester United and Real Madrid were keen on signing his client.

United's interest is believed to have cooled, but it had been thought Madrid were still keen on signing the experienced defender.

Chelsea are keen on bringing in a new right-back this summer and have been linked with Ajax's Gregory van der Wiel and Cesar Azpilicueta of Marseille in recent weeks following the recent departure of Jose Bosingwa, while Lille’s Mathieu Debuchy is also on their radar.

But following reports in Italy late last week which claimed Chelsea were closing in a deal for Maicon, according to the Daily Mail, the Blues are now clear favourites as a result of Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho also cooling his interest.

Sky Sports Italia reported at the weekend that Chelsea could complete a deal in the next few days.

Should a move to Stamford Bridge go through, Maicon would become Chelsea's third major signing of the summer following the recent arrivals of Marko Marin and Eden Hazard.
