Chelsea on Monday denied claims owner Roman Abramovich held "showdown" talks with manager Andre Villas-Boas over the weekend.

Reports on Monday morning had suggested the Russian billionaire held talks with Villas-Boas prior to Sunday's 3-3 draw with Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

But while the Blues have confirmed Abramovich spoke with AVB during a rare visit to the club's training ground on Saturday, the club insist his visit to Cobham was "normal."

A club spokesman said on Monday afternoon: "Roman likes to get down to Cobham and watch training whenever he can.

"He was able to visit on Saturday and he and Andre had a good chat after the training session, which is normal."

Abramovich's weekend appearance is believed to have been his first of the season.

It is also believed he held talks with Chelsea players in the dressing room after Sunday's game, which saw Villas-Boas' men held to a draw despite having led 3-0.

The result left bookmakers cutting the odds on Villas-Boas being out of a job by the start of next season (see below).
