Bayer Leverkusen in U-turn as Chelsea FC target Andre Schurrle NOT for sale

Bayer Leverkusen general manager Rudi Voller insists Chelsea target Andre Schurrle will not be sold this summer.

Leverkusen CEO Wolfgang Holzhauser earlier this month rejected a €20million bid from Chelsea for 21-year-old Schurrle, who has been on the Blues' radar for some time.

It has since been reported that Chelsea are preparing an improved bid for the Germany international, with Holzhauser suggesting that the door was left open for the Premier League side to return with an improved offer.

But according to Voller, the Bundesliga outfit will now not consider selling Schurrle as they are "unable to sign a replacement."

"There is no alternative to the decision of not selling Andre Schurrle," Voller told Kicker.

"We are unable to sign a replacement.

"Those adequate players that are available are too expensive and therefore we would be forced to sign a weaker player overpriced. The matter is over with and I have also told Andre so."

And Holzhauser appears to have performed a U-turn as he was quoted as saying: "We have not received any new bid from Chelsea for Andre Schurrle. And we really do not want to talk about this topic anymore."

Chelsea have also been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Internacional attacker Oscar dos Santos Emboaba Junio, with the Brazilian's agent on Monday afternoon claiming talks have ended (see Related Articles).
