Atletico Madrid confirm interest in Chelsea FC target Radamel Falcao

Atletico Madrid have confirmed they are interested in signing Porto striker Radamel Falcao, who has been linked with a move to Chelsea.

Reports in Spain on Tuesday had suggested Falcao, who has been linked with both Chelsea and Real Madrid over the summer, had agreed personal terms with Atletico.

But while a deal is yet to be agreed, Atletico president Enrique Cerezo has confirmed he is keen on signing the forward as a replacement for Sergio Aguero, who last month joined Manchester City in a £38million deal.

"Falcao is an objective of ours," Cerezo told Maisfutebol.

"What I can say is that Atletico Madrid want a great player and Falcao is a great player.

"Right now, we are trying to sign a great player, a marquee signing."

Falcao has a €45million [£38m] release clause in his contract at Porto, and although Atletico have money to spend following the sale of Aguero, Cerezo has stated he has no plans to spend that kind of money on just one player.

"€45m is a lot of money," he added. "Right now, the way the market is, it is too much money."

Reports on Tuesday had suggested Atletico have offered Porto £22m plus Eduardo Salvio, who is out of favour at the Vicente Calderon.

Falcao last month admitted Chelsea were a club he "dreams" of playing for.
