Sevilla and Valencia have reportedly joined Chelsea in the race to sign Gregory Van der Wiel from Ajax.

The 23-year-old was linked with a move to Stamford Bridge throughout the summer, with reports in Holland shortly before the transfer window closed claiming a deal with the Blues had been agreed.

Those reports were incorrect, but clubs are still expected to make a move for the Netherlands international in the New Year.

And according to Give Me Football - the official PFA website, Chelsea now face competiton from Spain for the player who has previously been linked with the likes of Liverpool, AC Milan, Real Madrid and Manchester City.

It is thought that Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has turned his attention back to the Dutchman after failing with a bid to sign full-back Alvaro Pereira from former club Porto, with the Europa League champions reluctant to let the Uruguay international move to west London.

Van der Wiel's agent, Hakim Slimani, earlier this year had revealed that he believed the full-back could join Chelsea in the summer.
