Metro: Manchester United are sweating over an injury to star striker Robin van Persie after the £24million man was taken off at half-time of Holland’s 4-1 win in Hungary with a suspected thigh injury.

Also: Midfielder Esteban Granero has said it was easy to leave Real Madrid for QPR and has insisted that he misses nothing about life at the Bernabeu.

And: Frank Lampard spared England’s blushes with a penalty after Ukraine threatened to inflict a shock defeat on Roy Hodgson’s men at Wembley.


Daily Telegraph: Frank Lampard rescued England here last night, striking a late penalty after a largely abject performance by Roy Hodgson's side. England's saviour also finished as their leader after Steven Gerrard was deservedly dismissed for two yellow cards. 

Also: Scotland suffered a second draw in four days and may live to rue the loss of four valuable home points.


The Guardian: Apparently the England side are now officially the third best international team in the World. Or, at least that is what FIFA would like us to believe through its increasingly perplexing ranking system.


The Independent: Shinji Kagawa is a major doubt for Manchester United's Premier League match against Wigan on Saturday after sitting out Japan's World Cup qualifier against Iraq because of back pain.
