Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, who is widely expected to join Barcelona this summer if he leaves the Emirates, has opened the door to a possible move to their rivals Real Madrid

Barcelona have been chasing the 24-year-old for over two years and last year, the Spain international was quoted as saying that he would only ever leave the Gunners to return to his boyhood club.

But the midfielder appears to be open to a shock move to the Bernabeu.

Speaking in Madrid at the launch of a new fragrance by fashion designer Angel Schlesser, Fabregas was quoted by the Daily Express as saying of a move to Real Madrid: "I would never say never."

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez recently admitted he would love to sign Fabregas and is prepared to meet Arsenal's asking price.

Arsenal are believed to value their skipper at £50million although it is expected that they will reluctantly sell should they receive an offer of around £40m, providing Fabregas himself asking for a move.

Fabregas is due in Barcelona on holiday following his trip to the Spanish capital, where Barca are expected to sound him out over a possible move to Camp Nou.

The European champions are expected to launch a fresh move for the player, although Barcelona president Sandro Rosell earlier this week said that the Catalans' valuation of their top transfer target is less than it was twelve months ago, when they failed with a £35m bid.
