Tito Vilanova insists FC Barcelona not trying to sign Neymar

Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova insists he has never spoken about trying to sign Santos striker Neymar.

Neymar last year snubbed a move to Europe and signed an improved contract with Santos, but is widely expected to be on the move before his deal expires in 2014.

Barcelona have been linked for the 20-year-old for some time, along with Chelsea, Juventus, and Real Madrid.

The Catalans are widely seen as favourites to sign the £40million-rated forward, who is currently starring for Brazil at the London 2012 Olympic Games, but Vilanova has dismissed reports suggesting he is preparing to launch a bid for the player.

"I've never spoken about signing Neymar," he was quoted as saying by Marca.

"You journalists are the ones who wrote the stories."

Vilanova's comments come just a week after Barcelona vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu hinted at making a move for Neymar by stating he hoped the player would move to Spain at the conclusion of the London Games.

"We would all like Neymar to come after the Olympics," he told a Barca supporters' groups in Morocco.

"He is a Santos player [at the moment] but I am sure Neymar will come to Europe in the future, and when that moment arrives we will be attentive so he can sign for Barcelona."
