Liverpool FC striker Andy Carroll set to snub West Ham move - report

Liverpool and West Ham are understood to have agreed a deal for Andy Carroll - but the striker will reportedly reject a move to London.

BBC Sport on Monday night reported that West Ham had agreed a £2million loan fee with Liverpool for Carroll, who cost the Reds a club record £35m when he joined them from Newcastle at the start of 2011.

The deal would see West Ham also given the option to sign the 23-year-old in a £17m deal at the end of the season, providing they stay in the Premier League.

However, it is believed Carroll does not wish to leave Liverpool on a permanent basis, and according to the Daily Mirror, he is not keen on moving to Upton Park on a temporary basis either.

The England international is understood to have told friends that he will only consider a move away from Anfield should he be able to return to former club Newcastle.

The Magpies, who are believed to be preparing an improved offer, last week failed with a bid to re-sign their former forward on loan with a view to a permanent deal.

Newcastle's opening offer for Carroll was worth £13m, with Liverpool wanting a fee in the region of £20m before agreeing to sell.

According to Tuesday's report, Carroll's position is further complicated because the Reds have not yet paid Newcastle the final instalments of his record transfer fee.

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner last week hinted that the club could make a decision on Carroll in the near future and insisted manager Brendan Rodgers would have the final say on whether or not he is sold during the transfer window.

"Brendan is clearly the leader here," Werner told Sky Sports News.

"The only thing I can say is we will do what is best for the club.

"At the moment Andy is on the squad, he is an important member of the England team and he has a lot of talent. We will see what happens."

And he added: "Hopefully the question will be answered shortly, but at the moment Andy is on the team and we look forward to him contributing."
