Liverpool FC hoping to snap up Clint Dempsey in £10m deal

Liverpool are reportedly hoping to sign Fulham midfielder Clint Dempsey in a £10million deal.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is keen on signing Dempsey, who has previously been linked with a move to Arsenal, with reports on Wednesday morning suggesting the former Swansea boss was confident of a deal being agreed by the end of the week.

But Crunchsports.com understands a fee has not been agreed at time of writing.

Dempsey netted 17 goals last season to strengthen his reputation as a goalscoring midfielder, and recently admitted he could be prepared to leave Craven Cottage.

Liverpool have indicated they are ready to let record signing Andy Carroll leave Anfield this summer, with former club Newcastle favourites to win the race to sign the £35m forward.

But Fulham are also believed to to be keen on the 23-year-old, and late last week The Guardian reported that an audacious swap deal could be a possibility.

The Cottagers would reportedly have to pay around £9m in addition to Dempsey if they were to sign Carroll on a permanent deal.

Liverpool have already signed Fabio Borini from Roma, and Rodgers is believed to be keen on adding three or four more new faces to his squad before the start of the new season.
