Brendan Rodgers fuming after seeing Liverpool FC lose to Udinese

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has blasted his players after they lost 3-2 at home to Udinese in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Rodgers has called for his side to improve their levels of concentration after seeing Udinese race to a 3-1 lead after the Reds had opened the scoring.

Liverpool dominated the first half, going 1-0 up thanks to a Jonjo Shelvey header.

But the Italians came back after half-time, with Antonio Di Natale scoring just 32 seconds after the restart.

An own goal by Sebastian Coates and a Giovanni Pasquale strike put Udinese 3-1 up, meaning Luis Suarez's superb free-kick was only a consolation.

"I thought we were very, very good in the first half, and the problems that we have in the first 15-20 minutes in the second half has been with us from the beginning of the season," Rodgers told ITV.

"We lose concentration and become lazy, and all of a sudden in that period we find ourselves 3-1 down.

"We inject energy and the quality into the game in the last 20 minutes or so and that's the level that the players have been at recently.

"So we're just disappointed it was after such a good first half and control and domination - to then give away such poor goals at the beginning of the second half, and then obviously we're chasing the game at 3-1."

The former Swansea boss also called for his players to work harder defensively.

"We can't have to score three, four or five goals to win games," he continued.

"That's the end we have to work hard on. Some of our quality and domination of the ball is very good, we just concede goals too early and that's something we need to improve on."

Liverpool are now third in Europe League Group A, one point behind joint leaders Udinese and Anzhi Makhachkala.

"We looked like we were going to win it, then maybe get a point and we ended up with nothing," Rodgers added.

"There are quality teams in this group. It's qualification that we aim for."
