Liverpool could reportely use Charlie Adam as a makeweight in a deal to sign Clint Dempsey from Fulham.

New Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers this past week confirmed the club have made enquiries about Dempsey, who has been linked with a move away from Craven Cottage for some time.

And according to the Daily Mail, Rodgers is considering offloading Adam as part of a deal for the United States international.

Adam only moved to Anfield from Blackpool twelve months ago, but failed to make much of an impression in his first season at the club.

Rodgers is also keen on raiding former club Swansea for Joe Allen in a move which would likely see the Scotland international fall down the pecking order at Liverpool next season..

"Clint is a player we've enquired about, it is as simple as that," Rodgers admitted to the club's official website earlier this week.

"Ian Ayre, our managing director, has spoken with the club to see what the position is.

"That is where we're at.

"He's a very talented player but we don't like to talk about other clubs' players."
