Liverpool FC refuse to comment on Kenny Dalglish speculation

Liverpool on Tuesday refused to comment on the future of manager Kenny Dalglish following speculation that he was set to part company with the club.

Dalglish had flown to the United States on Monday for crunch talks with the club's owners after a weekend of speculation about his future at Anfield.

Owner John W Henry and Tom Werner have yet to say publicly that King Kenny will be in charge next season as they conduct their end-of-season review, wanting to know why the club finished eighth in the Premier League despite spending over £100million on new players since they took charge of the Merseysiders.

At the weekend, it was reported that Dalglish's position was in doubt - something which he reacted angrily to after Sunday's 1-0 defeat at Swansea.

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has been linked with Liverpool over the past 72 hours, with the Daily Star this week reporting that Henry and Werner are "hugely impressed" by the Spaniard.

Tuesday saw Dalglish 'trending' on Twitter following a number of reports suggesting he was heading for the exit door, and on Tuesday afternoon, Liverpool were refusing to comment on the Scot's future as he returned to England following talks.

The Swansea defeat condemned Liverpool to their worst finish for 19 seasons, but Dalglish hit out at reports suggesting he could be replaced by Martinez.

"I expect the owners to have more dignity and integrity than to believe a story in a newspaper," he insisted.
