West Ham have reportedly ended their interest in signing Andy Carroll - despite agreeing terms with Liverpool.

It is believed West Ham had agreed a £2million loan fee for Liverpool's £35m record signing, with the option to sign the 23-year-old in a £17m deal at the end of the season, providing they stay in the Premiership.

But according to BBC Sport, the Hammers have ended their interest after the England international told them he had no intention of moving to Upton Park.

Carroll's former club Newcastle remain interested in taking the target man back to Tyneside, but are thought to be unwilling to meet Liverpool's valuation.

The Magpies last month failed with a £13m bid and are yet to increase their offer.

Carroll missed last Thursday's Europa League qualifier away to FC Gomel but could still play in the return leg at Anfield.

UEFA rules allow a player to represent one club in the Europa League qualifying round and another in the group stages, meaning he would not be cup-tied in the competition should he feature for the Reds later this week then secure a return to St James' Park before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce at the weekend said he believed signing Carroll on loan would almost guarantee his side avoid relegation this season.

"I would have probably stuck my neck out and said we would almost certainly stay up with him on board," he told The People.

"We wouldn't have thought we would have had any chance of signing a player of Andy Carroll's capabilities but it became clear a couple of weeks ago there was a possibility of a loan.

"Unfortunately, at this moment, it's not the case."
