Martin Jol: Liverpool FC target Clint Dempsey still has future at Fulham FC

Fulham manager Martin Jol has revealed he is hopeful of keeping Clint Dempsey at the club - despite refusing to play the forward in Saturday's 5-0 victory over Norwich.

Dempsey has been linked with a move to Liverpool throughout the summer transfer window and this past week told Fulham he wanted to leave Craven Cottage.

Jol had on Friday confirmed to reporters that Dempsey, who earlier this month pulled out of the club's pre-season training camp in Switzerland in a bid to force through a move to Anfield, wanted to leave the club this month.

The Dutchman had said that the 29-year-old was keen on joining a club playing Champions League football this season, which led to Dempsey hitting out at his manager via Twitter.

Writing on the social networking page on Friday evening, Dempsey had said: "There are two sides to the story. The truth will come out soon."

However when asked after the win over Norwich whether there was any way back for the player, Jol replied: "Of course.

"It's better if he stays here because there's no offer for us on the table. Hopefully we can change the situation."

And he added: "We all like him. Even if you don't like him, he's our top goalscorer so we're a professional club.

"I told him I almost love him as a son last year - he scored all the goals and I was always happy with him."
