Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing Hatem Ben Arfa and are ready to battle with Newcastle United to land the Marseille winger on a permanent deal

The 23-year-old is currently on loan at Newcastle but has been sidelined for much of his spell after breaking his leg against Manchester City earlier this season.

The Frenchman is expected back in February and Newcastle are hopeful of agreeing a permanent deal with the player and the Ligue 1 club.

But according to Caughtoffside.com, Liverpool are ready to beat the Magpies to the £5million signing of the French international next summer.

Ben Arfa had been linked with a move to Anfield last summer prior to his move to Tyneside.
