Man City target Daniele De Rossi NOT for sale say AS Roma in U-turn

Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has backtracked over comments in which he indicated Daniele De Rossi could be sold this month.

De Rossi has been linked with a move to England for some time, with Manchester City favourites to sign the Italy international and rivals Manchester United also keen.

Sabatini had said that if the midfielder wanted a move away from the club this month, "or if a club offered an amount we can't refuse, it should be considered."

He had added: "That is not to say we would give in to Daniel, but at least we would talk about it."

However, speaking to reporters on Thursday afternoon, Sabatini was forced to clarify his comments following a backlash from Roma fans.

"I never said that De Rossi is not unsellable, I just made a general consideration regarding the whole of football," he insisted.

"If a monstrous bid materialized we would evaluate it, but we are not looking for buyers for Daniele because he is a pillar of our team.

"For us he is a player of extraordinary importance and not replaceable, so it would be too difficult to do a deal even if there was an indecent proposal.

"We have not set a price for De Rossi. Fiorentina ask €30million for [Stefan] Jovetic? The figure for Daniele is higher than that."
