Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi, who has been linked with Manchester City and Manchester United, could be on his way to the Etihad Stadium.
De Rossi has been linked with a move to England for some time and earlier this summer put clubs on alert by stating he believes the Premiership is "more interesting" than Serie A.
The 28-year-old signed a new five-year contract at Roma earlier this year following speculation linking him with both Manchester rivals, with his new deal thought to be worth £5million a year.
But after De Rossi recently hinted at a move to the Premier League after revealing he is attracted by the offers he has received, Roma have indicated they are ready to sell before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying: "If Daniele came to us saying that he wanted to leave, or is a club offered an amount we can't refuse, it should be considered.
"That is not to say we would give in to Daniel, but at least we would talk about it.
"Roma cannot be detached from the reality that the movement of players may be necessary for survival."
Speaking during Euro 2012, the Italy international said: "I have received many offers from English football. And I must say that I feel attraction for it.
"I like English football very much. I think now it's probably more interesting than Italian football."
