Arsenal captain Robin van Persie has reportedly been spotted house-hunting in Cheshire, indicating that Manchester City and Manchester United will fight for his signature this summer.

Van Persie is out of contract at the end of next season and earlier this month announced he does not plan to sign a new deal at Emirates Stadium, which is set to spark a £25million battle to secure his services this summer.

The 28-year old has been linked with a number of clubs from across Europe in recent weeks, with Serie A champions Juventus also keen, along with the likes of AC Milan, Barcelona, and Real Madrid.

On Saturday morning, the Daily Mail reported that Arsenal hope Van Persie will perform a Wayne Rooney-style U-turn when he holds talks with manager Arsene Wenger next week, with an unnamed source quoted as saying the Gunners were "very hopeful" of securing the Dutchman's long-term future.

But according to the Daily Star Sunday, Van Persie was seen in the exclusive village of Hale before jetting off on holiday, signalling that a move to Manchester is at the very least being considered.

United are still keen on bring in one or two more signings this summer following the recent arrivals of Japan international Shinja Kagawa and England Under-18 midfielder Nick Powell, while rivals City are believed to be ready to launch a bid for the Netherlands international after agreeing a fee with Tottenham for Emmanuel Adebayor.

Arsenal are thought to have offered Van Persie a three-year deal worth £130,000-a-week, but Man City are believed to be ready to pay him £225,000 a week to move to the Etihad Stadium.

On Monday morning, bookmakers Ladbrokes made Man City odds-on favourites to be Van Persie's next club, ahead of Man Utd - whose odds have been slashed over the past 24 hours - Juve, and Barcelona.
