Roberto Mancini 'not happy' as Man Utd close in on Robin Van Persie

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has blamed football administrator Brian Marwood for the club's failure to sign any players this summer.

Mancini has been keen on signing Robin van Persie but earlier this week admitted he was unlikely to be able to win the race to sign the Arsenal captain, who is widely expected to join rivals and neighbours Manchester United this month.

The Italian is also keen on signing Liverpool defender Daniel Agger and Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi.

And speaking on Friday morning, Mancini admitted he was unhappy that he had been unable to strengthen his squad.

Asked specifically about Van Persie, Mancini said: "Van Persie is not our player. He is an Arsenal or United player.

"These questions you should ask other people. I don't know what I can say. After three or four months...nothing."

Mancini also tried to avoid questions about transfers, and added: "I am not happy but I won't say anything at the moment.

"For this you should talk to Brian Marwood."

Mancini has seen City also fail to offload any of their unwanted players, with Wayne Bridge sent on loan to Brighton, and strikers Roque Santa Cruz and Emmanuel Adebayor still at the Etihad Stadium.

The Premier League champions had been eager to reduce their wage bill by offloading the trio in a bid to free up funds to bring in new players.

"I don't know what I should say in this situation because after three months [no one has been signed]," added Mancini.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson on Wednesday night had confirmed he was still trying to push a deal for Van Persie through in time for the start of the new season.

The 29-year-old was the subject of bids from United, City, and Juventus last month, with Ferguson's side now the huge odds-on favourites with bookmakers to win the race to sign the Dutchman.

Liverpool have admitted they are prepared to let Agger join City, but only if their valuation is met. The Blues are believed to have lodged a £16million bid, but the Merseysiders value the centre-back at around £25m.
