Manchester United are reportedly ready to join Arsenal in the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin.
Arsenal are expected to complete the signing of Santi Cazorla from Malaga this week after the Spanish midfielder passed a medical in London over the weekend.
Sahin is also wanted by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, and Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has revealed is ready to let the 23-year-old leave the Bernabeu this month.
But according to Marca, the Gunners face competition from their Premier League rivals in the race to sign the Turkey international.
However, according to the Madrid-based newspaper, United are only interested in taking Sahin on a permanent deal.
Arsenal are hoping to complete a season-long loan deal for the player, and it is believed Los Blancos would prefer a temporary switch.
"He’s a young boy, he wants to play every match," Mourinho said last week.
"He wants to be happy to play, he wants to play to be happy, and in Real Madrid with Xabi Alonso, with [Sami] Khedira, with Lassana [Diarra], [Esteban] Granero, [Mesut] Ozil, the situation is not easy."
Mourinho also said the decision of whether Sahin leaves the Spanish capital before the end of the month will be down to the player himself.
"Real Madrid is very difficult. It is not an easy club, because we demand a lot.
"We have great players, and when you don’t start well, it is difficult to do it.
"If he stays, he’s not a problem for me, he’s one more solution. We leave [the situation] in his hands."
